Sowing and Reaping

"But if you do not take trouble with your children when they are young, they will give you trouble when they are old. Choose which you prefer."
-J.C. Ryle

In other words, it is often inconvenient and tedious to take the time necessary to train, instruct, correct and discipline our children consistently. But to ignore what needs to be done now will only give you more trouble later.

The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

Amen! Just last night I had to deal with a disciplinary situation with my oldest. It was literally three minutes before we were supposed to leave for church and he knew it. My personal want was to let it slide, but I knew I shouldn't. He initially attempted to be difficult about the discipline process. I immediately knew he was trying to work the time constraint against me. I simply told him that I was more than willing to be an hour late to church if that was what it took to work through this situation. It was astonishing how quickly his attitude improved! ;o)
