Jackson's Bibles

A couple of Wednesdays ago, on our way to church, Roddy was telling us that John had another opportunity for us to work with the homeless (this time with victims of domestic abuse).

When we got home that night Jackson came in our room and said he wanted to tell Mr. Helton something. For those who don't know him, John Helton is a good friend of ours and also the Local Missions Pastor at our church. Well, for some reason, Jackson didn't want to tell us. But after some prodding, he finally he told us he thought we should collect Bibles to give to the homeless.

I said, "That is a really great idea! Why didn't you want to tell us?" He said he was scared. Since it is unusual for him to be scared to tell us anything, we talked about how it was probably the devil trying to scare him because the last thing he would want is for us to give Bibles to anyone. Well that did it. Knowing the enemy was trying to keep him from such a great idea just fueled the fire in his belly. He was so excited after that. He just kept talking about what we could do to get people to bring Bibles to church and how we could make special boxes to collect them.

He even mentioned the time in church, after Pastor David's father passed away, when he was telling us about his dad's old, worn out, duct-taped Bible. Pastor David had said people would buy his dad new Bibles but he always went back to the old one. Jackson said, "Pastor David's dad could give all those Bibles." Somehow he had missed the part about his dad being in heaven now.

The next day Roddy told John and he loved the idea. After talking to the powers-that-be at church, he said we could put boxes out and somehow advertise the idea. He was so nice because a couple days later, John told us he was going to call the project "Jackson's Bibles." Isn't that cool? He said he knew that wasn't why Jackson was doing it but thought it would be a perfect name.

So if you have some extra Bibles laying around and would like to contribute, just let me know or start looking for the boxes at church in the next couple weeks.
